Warzone: Atlanta Bolt Action US Tournament

This is a grand-tournament-style five game event, deigned for both new players and experienced competitors. Players will be matched randomly in the first rounds, with a slider for experience to help match inexperienced players in the first round.

Missions will be clear but more complicated given the addition of a secondary objective in each round. The tables will have challenging, yet fair terrain – expect more terrain per table than you are probably used to. I believe battlefields should be evocative of their time and era, and as detailed as the amazing armies that players bring.

All players will get a free swag item (last year it was a cool template) and win at least one prize. And every player gets an authentic soviet era military medal!

Tickets can be found on the Store page!

No refunds after October 13th, 2023.

To score an objective you must have a friendly unit within 3” of the CENTER of the objective marker.

No unit may score more than one table quarter or objective.

SPORTSMANSHIP

Players are assumed to get maximum scores on sportsmanship each round. If a player demonstrates abusive behavior, slow play, cheating etc., notify a tournament judge immediately. Players behaving in an inappropriate fashion will be docked points, asked to leave, or banned from future Warzone events.

At the end of the event players will be asked to vote for their favorite player, amongst the five opponents they faced.

ARMY APPEARANCE & SCORING

All armies must be fully painted (at least three color minimum) and WYSIWYG. Customization and creative modeling is encouraged as long as it is clear what the unit is supposed to represent. If in doubt, contact the tournament organizer by any of the means listed below.

Judges will score all players’ army’s appearance during the first and second lunch breaks, so leave them set up on the table until your army has been scored, against the following rubric:

All models are fully painted (Required) = 1 Point
All models are fully based = 1 Point
Basic details such as unit markings, decals on tanks, simple wash or highlights = 1 Point
Advanced details such as rank insignia, eyes, advanced shading = 1 Point
Really amazing work; advanced shading and weathering, freehand, creative customization, thematic bases, etc. = 1 Point

Most players should expect to get 3 of the 5 possible points

Favorite army:   Players will be asked to vote for their favorite army at the end of the event. This includes things like overall paint job, army cohesiveness, display board, army theme, history, etc. This is a unique category and does not count toward the overall score.

AWARDS

Best Allied General Highest total battle points, allied armies

Best Axis General Highest total battle points, axis armies

Overall winner Highest points include sportsmanship and painting

Best painted: Highest paint score which doesn’t earn one of the above awards

Favorite Army: Player votes, highest score that hasn’t earned another award

Best sportsman: Lowest battle point score with perfect sportsmanship scores

FUBAR award: Player who got the most FUBARS

SCENARIOS

All scenarios, unless otherwise stated, allow for OUTFLANKING, FORWARD DEPLOYMENT and RESERVES.

Preparatory bombardment will be in effect for some missions. However the rules change to:

All models set up on the table in missions with Preparatory bombardment start the game with 2 pin markers. No rolls are required. Models which forward deploy outside the mission deployment zone are not affected.

Spotters and medics or empty transports cannot hold or contest objectives

When a unit in outflank fails its roll to come on the table, the player must disclose on which flank it was intended to arrive. The player does NOT have disclose any other outflank information for units which yet to arrive

CODE OF CONDUCT

  • Bring a good attitude, come to have fun

  • No overtly offensive models.

  • Be prepared, bringing dice, templates, army books and a copy of your list for each player

  • If you lose, be a gracious loser. It is YOUR job to make sure the other player has fun.

Warzone: Atlanta 2022 Team Tournament

EVENT ESSENTIALS

Army Size: 1,000 points per player for a total army size of 2,000 points.

Scenarios: Missions will be drawn from the current Warhammer 40K Grand Tournament pack.

Number of games: Three.

Army Selection: Each player selects a separate Battle Forged army with a maximum of two detachments. All models need to be painted to a “Battle Ready” standard. Models not painted to this standard may be requested to be removed from the table.

New Codexes and Rules must be released by Games Workshop on or before Wednesday, November 16, 2022.

Lists will need to be submitted through Best Coast Pairings no later than 11:59 pm Eastern Time on Wednesday, Wednesday, November 23, 2021. Failure to submit lists by the deadline will result in a yellow card.

ARMY BUILDING

Each player will have their own separate 1,000 point army using no more than two Detachments. This army must be selected following the usual Matched Play rules for choosing an army as found in the Warhammer 40,000 core rule book.

  • Players cannot ‘share’ when building an army. For example, each player must use their own detachments, and cannot use the other player’s remaining points.

  • Reinforcement points apply to a player, not to the whole TEAM. For example, if player A has 200 reinforcement points set aside, player B does NOT have access to them.

Both players’ armies then combine to create an army of up to 2,000 points. We will call this combined army a TEAM. When playing your games, rules that relate to an army or player will relate to your TEAM. Here are a few common examples:

  • Stratagems. The same stratagem cannot be used by the same TEAM more than once during any single phase.

  • Psychic Focus. As each psychic power can be attempted only once per turn, this would apply to the whole TEAM .

  • Victory Points are scored as a TEAM.

  • Deployment. TEAMS alternate deploying their units. In addition, within your TEAM player A may deploy all their models before player B need start, should you wish.

  • Command Points. The pool of Command Points is usable by the whole TEAM.

  • Unique Models. Any model that is only allowed to be included once in your army is only allowed once per TEAM. For example, a TEAM may NOT have 2 x Kharn The Betrayer, even if they are from different players’ 1,000 point army.

GAMING SCORES

At the end of each game, you and your opposing team will need to record your results on your event card, and then hand in your results to the event staff at the same time. We need you to do this as promptly as possible so that the next game can be organized straight away. Each game lasts two hours and thirty minutes, and once the game ends, you will have five minutes to record your result with the events team. To determine the winner of each game, use the victory conditions as laid out in the mission.
